uCoz Free Website Builder Review

I tried out a new free website builder today and sharing my review on the same. The website builder is uCoz Free Website Builder. This post will contain my experience and review on the feature rich Free Website Builder.

Getting Started with uCoz Site Builder

I signed up on the free website builder and completed the Email Verification Part.
The page redirected to the Admin Panel Setup page which asks you to enter a new Password for the Webtop Setup (Note: The uCoz Password and Webtop Password cannot be same. Setup a Strong Password)

Next you will have to setup the Domain name for the new site, One thing thats appreciable is that the site offers lots of options on the subdomain type like .ucoz.com , .ucoz.net etc. Enter the Domain name of your site and choose the preferred subdomain, Enter the Security Code, Accept agreement and Click Continue. (Note: You can choose your TLD – Top Level Domain  if you have bought a domain after you setup the subdomain so choose any subdomain and then in the control panel you can change it to TLD.)

After the domain setup, You can choose the site name and design, There are lots of premade designs to choose from. Choose the Language and continue.

One of the Pros of uCoz site builder is that you can choose the Modules to be installed very easily like you can add a Forum, Web Poll etc by merely ticking the check box. In the concurrent step choose the modules and continue. I went with the simple Page Editor for my website.

The website builder provides an ever increasing Disk Space, The starting I got was 400MB and noticed that the size increases every second by KBs.

The page editor module I chose left me with a whooping 14 Services to configure! Thats great lots of services are easy to configure like File Manager for upload, RSS Imports, Backups etc. The full list of services are shown in the screenshot below.

After setting up the site I thought of checking the site speed to see if the Servers were fast and trustable, Upon checking the site speed on Pingdom Tools I found the site loaded in just 1.6 Seconds. Siteload speed is essential for a website because Google takes into consideration the site speed for Ranking Factors. Also you might not be aware but an average Internet user waits no more that 4 seconds for a website to load and your new site loads in just 1.6 Seconds!! Isnt that great?

After that I went on to edit the site homepage with contents. Just for sample I wrote ‘Hello World’ from the page editor. The page editor is simple and compact with only essential features stuffed like Image Upload, HTML Edit view etc.

Next finishing up the homepage I checked out the Site Builder Desktop which features your sites and other settings, You can see the screenshot below.

Summing up the review, Here are the Pros and Cons of uCoz Site Builder. Before that here is the look of my Finished website with a simple text. All this took only 8-10 Minutes to setup. :O

Cons -

1. There is a service which expains how to promote your site. The area is a bit outdated as it lists Link Exchange as a mode of traffic generation which after the Recent Google updates are no longer relevant.
2. The Page Editor has no Preview Mode (Atleast I didnot find it) Though you can reverse the changes after saving by using Ctrl+Z key combination.

Pros -

1. It is a Free resource that can be used for startups and existing sites.
2. Provides free Subdomain ending with ucoz.com/ucoz.net/ucoz.org.
3. Plenty of webspace which is ever increasing.
4. Easy and simple to use.
5. Feature rich and many services like Backups, Filemanager, RSS Import,Comments manager, IP Blocker etc.
6. Fast and Reliable server.
