Back in November 2009 you might have heard about the Sixth Sense
Technology from an Indian tech wizard, Pranav Mistry. He has made the
technology open-source and is now available for download. The project
was earlier started by him at MIT. This project was demonstrated by him
at Mysore, India through TED. The days are not far when people will
start wearing such devices and interact with the world as it was never
before. His dream(and hopefully many others who are waiting for this
project) will come true soon, as you will see the coming of device in
markets. Currently, it is in its first public beta test and anyone is
free to participate in this test. All you have to do is download the
code and apply it to real life things(it’s obvious you’ll need the
hardware).
The source code is available in C++ and it can be downloaded from it’s Google Code Homepage, here. And more information on the project can be found out here. The detailed technical specifications are mentioned on his website, and can also be found on the Google Code Homepage of this project.
Wish you all the best Pranav!
A ‘SixthSense’ is a wearable gestural interface that augments the physical world around us with digital information and lets us use natural hand gestures to interact with that information. By using a camera and a tiny projector mounted in a pendant like wearable device, ‘SixthSense’ sees what you see and visually augments any surfaces or objects we are interacting with. It projects information onto surfaces, walls, and physical objects around us, and lets us interact with the projected information through natural hand gestures, arm movements, or our interaction with the object itself. ‘SixthSense’ attempts to free information from its confines by seamlessly integrating it with reality, and thus making the entire world your computer.
